www.indigoandcloth.com

This is probably my last post on this blog so thought it right to say thankyou for reading and im sure you'll join us in our new home.

Its hard trying to design a site that will be your map into the uncertainty. Iv tried to cover all the aspects I am both commercially and personally interested in.

I liked this picture because it says what I wanted to and has the arrow moving forward. So, all thats left to say is, lets go this way and see what happens...See you on the other side.

Selectism's Q&A with APC's Jean Touitou

Its not often you see so many comments on a Selectism article but this one seem's to have stirred up a few. I sit on the fence with APC. If im brutally honest, I think its Jean Touitou who puts me off the brand. That and the fact that when your main aim is to make basics, chances are, you will get some right.

Of course the other arguement is that making basics is just about the hardest thing to do in fashion, especially when you factor in quality which is what this interview focuses on.

To sum, I like what APC does. I'd wear most of their range happily but yet Iv NEVER even thought about buying a piece. Why ?

Eh, I think I just got insulted

Ok GQ, you have a new home on-line but don't go thinking you can just start writing anything. Agreed, Bono is not going to win best dressed at the upcoming MTV awards but don't go painting us all with the same brush.

I'll give you some rope in that the Irish are not the most stylish nation but don't go hanging yourself all the same. We do get your magazine over here too you know.

Quotes as follows:

"They're Irish," I argued. Meaning, of course, that the Irish are notoriously lacking in high style. Sometimes it's hard to tell who's the husband and who's the wife. Everybody looks like a dyke in Ireland."

"It got me thinking that the Irish just don't care about this stuff. And that's okay with me, because, really, the world doesn't need more fashion—it needs more heart"

That hurt you fuckers

John Mayer 'who says'

I like this guy. The intro to the video is pretty cool too. It also got me a little excited about going to NY, less than 2 weeks !!!

Now in

Just opened the box to this seasons Rodebjer and girls are excited ! The tartan jacket you see in the picture above is an amazing piece (€315) made from mohair and wool. Im pretty sure its over a dress that we have too. Its such a femme collection, love it.

The Vest

One of the aspects of my job is knowing whats next I hear bullshit about this topic all the time with womens fashion in particular full of the 'next big thing'.

Mens, im glad to say makes a bit more sense because us men would not be able to keep up or care about 10 trends in a year.

I said a while back though that vest and body warmers would begin to creep in. It seems to happening a little higher and slower in the market than I expected but im liking these two. The Lavenham above and Albam's below

Post 999 - Opening Ceremony ss10

I noticed about a week ago that I was approaching the landmark of 1000 posts as we prepare to go-live on our new website.
Naturally I was thinking how cool, just leave it at straight 1000 and switch but im kinda thinkin we may keep up this blog under a new name...I was thinking 'Sourced & Endorsed' ?
Why ? Im just thinking our own blog should probably not focus too much on other stores and brands we don't stock, as we have been doing. Iv no problem talking up good people, im just thinking is it good for us ? I don't see other stores blogs sharing the love ?
So if you think we should keep some stuff seperate or just keep going the way we have been, again your comments are most welcome.
That said, I love the Opening Ceremony range and it has definetly been getting better and better in my opinion. Im in NY end of the month and will be visiting the store for the first time so look forward to it. via

House of flying daggers

Thank god for Channel 4, because for those nights when you just NEED a good movie, they rarely let me down. Last night I was up into the wee hours and had the pleasure of watching a movie I had not seen in years. I took time to appreciate it this time round and the cinematogrophy was exceptional along with the beautiful actress Zhang Ziyi . I kinda liked her in the mens clothes too. There is something about that though...do you agree ?

Cause I think it is

This is a shoot I came across on Kanye West's Blog and tried to find it on ID as im pretty sure its shot at the Giants Causeway ? I think its pretty cool, hence the post.

Images taken in-store

A bit yellowy but otherwise ok ? No photoshop you see...

Showroom Shots - opinions needed

So spent the morning playing with my new camera. Havn't a clue what im doing but here's the results! Its very important to me that there's a realness about the shots. I want the shopper to feel like they are in the store. I also thought it best that seeing as its stock I bought and look at every day, I may aswell photograph the stock and give its description. I know its not going to be perfect for a while yet but then again we are an independent store and we don't have a team for this stuff.
Let me know any thoughts you have. They should be set up to Zoom in on and will be added gradually to the on-line store. More shots from in-store to follow.

GQ Homecoming Shoot

This is a fashion blog and this is a fashion shoot. Anything in black and white or sepia seem to work these days. More shots via Definitive Touch

The Sunday Supplement

Its 5 minutes away from monday and I was trying my best to try chill out after a long day at the office but can't. This image about sums up where im at. You start a journey thats pretty scary and there is no turning back.
This supplement centers around bloggers today. I read a great piece by Jessica Valenti in the Guardian on Thursday that talked about disclosure and regulation of blogs. It talked about the Nestle baby milk boycott and how it went about inviting 20 'Mom and Pop' bloggers to try remedy the situation. Basically it backfired.
Having a blog/tweet/facebook etc is common but still scary in how good and bad it can be for you. I never really wanted to embrace the new tech era but here I am blogging at midnight before launching a new website. Scared shitless I might add. I like to be a bit more face to face and iv tried wording and leaning the site that direction. Again scary. People you don't know effectively getting to know you without even meeting you.
I read Blanaids piece about being in love today and then I go and read about H(Y)R Collective's new direction. Ryan there sounds like a great guy and always puts his heart into his posts. But here's the thing.
Can hearts and heads work well together on business blogs ? I suppose my answer is on mine but there is constant conflict. You have good days and you have bad days like anyone else and it effects your work like everyone else.
Finally id ask - Has the way we do business changed ? Is there more emphasis on whom we do business ? Yet with the internet and mobile phone, we may never get to meet that person...

If I were you, id be a little miffed by Indigo & Cloth not having their new website up by now. I hate those 'coming soon' slogans. So sincere apologies and for lack of posts etc. Its amazing how many people check in a few times a day or at least use to !

So the lastest news is:

The website should be live by next weekend. No it will not be 100% but sometimes you just gotta go for the next rung of the ladder. It also looks like we will have the annex store upstairs until Christmas with an exciting project in the offing. We will also be working hard to bring you some exciting shoots and features before Christmas. Basically we are trying to do lots of things and are like too little butter over too much toast

That said, I feel like a kid on Christmas eve...Its been the most exciting time iv had in 'work'

Refinery 29 - Designers to watch

I like when somebody takes the time to give a tip of the hat to the up and comers. Its also kinda my job to look into these things and my attention was grabbed by Katie Gallagher. Her name, her story, her look and most importantly her collection.
I always bookmark these designers and check back from time to time to see where they are at. Lets see, shall we...

Saturday, October 10, 2009

I know its early days but iv got my reasons. First off, I got my coffee in a Christmas cup today and secondly, iv just arrived back from being in Derry for a few days with work and they go mental for Holloween up there. so this post goes out to all the Clockwork Orange Staff whom ive been brainwashing. Actually thats a pretty good holloween movie...KUBRICK IS AMAZING

Oh, and last reason, im going to be in NY for Holloween ! Im over for a few days so gona try meet up with a few people.

Air Love 2 album

I think all the cool kids listen to Air ? Iv only become a fan in the last year or so. I think it just works. In shops, studio's, some afterparty's etc. This Album is no different really, which is a good thing. That said, just bought it. Im happy. :)

Goth & Glamorous is the look

Goth & Glamorous is the look. THE look. And Balmain fucking killed it, what an amazing collection. My new favourite blogger thought so too. Blanaid, legend springs to mind. See you at the next lunch

Universal Works ss10 - Bought

Its great when one of customers/inside circle give you an e-mail with a heads up, thanks Marc. So yes told a few people about this brand already. Now Selectism have a piece on it and so do WATM. In my opinion, you have to see this brand in the flesh before you form the complete opinion. Price tags are good too.

There are so many changes going on here at the minute but yes, we have bought this brand for Spring and think its a winner.

More Denim Talk - Self Edge Q&A

Complex sat down with Kiya Babzani, co-founder of San Francisco’s denim utopia Self Edge, to find out exactly what you’re paying for when you drop dough on designer jeans. Read on for his denim tips.

Iv always kissed the boots of the great man but not sure I agree with his angle on the 6 month wear in and not washing. From my experience you get some really nice detail coming up after 6 months and then washing inside out and on cold wash. And, yes it is a sin to alter the hem on your selvedge denims unless you chain stitch .

The Turn up

This post in born out of the frustration of seeing people ruin this look.

How did it come about ? I can't answer that but here's my take on this...

People by natural law are shorter or taller than the next person so tailors would have come to adjust for leg length. This adjustment would have been a new hem finish with a turn in (neat finish) or a turn up.

Fashion by its very nature then seasonaly determines which finish is in. Some people will care and some will keep doing what they have always done.

Now, when it comes to denim, there is also the selvedge denim turn up. Im not going to go into selvedge here but it can come in a range of colour thread to show that that the denim is indeed selvedge.

If your denim is not fucking selvedge, do not, repeat don't turn it up to show some shite factory stitching. Also think about double folding it and folding the denim back in on itself for a neat finish. A single fold up doesn't work for me or for practical purposes.

Which brings me nicely onto the recent trend, which im putting down to increased cycling, increased rainfall, increased knowledge of selvedge denim and the afore mentioned cyclical nature of fashion.

Technical Difficulties !!!

So up to my eyes as per usual but this isn't a blog on me ! However me being busy means lack of posts so apologies. Im not even busy improving things. In fact I managed to wipe all the people who have signed up to our newsletter. Oops.

If you could all be arsed signing up again, would be much appreciated. Im now banning myself from computers when tired !

Website will be live in less than 2 weeks. slow burner but will get there. How are you guys, any comments ?
